Conversation between Te Maire Tau, Director of the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre at the University of Canterbury and First Nations Tax Commission Chief Commissioner, C.T. Manny Jules. They talk about current issues facing Indigenous communities in New Zealand and Canada, as well as common histories.

Te Maire Tau is director of the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre at the University of Canterbury. As a historian on oral traditions, tribal genealogies, and indigenous knowledge systems, Tau served as an expert witness for the settlement of Ngāi Tahu’s Treaty of Waitangi claim. He has published widely on oral traditions and the relationship between indigenous knowledge systems and how they intersect with western science.

The Ngāi Tahu Research Centre (NTRC) was founded for the purpose of being a leader in indigenous scholarship and to provide a centre for the intellectual capital and development of Ngāi Tahu, the principal Māori iwi of the southern region of New Zealand. The NTRC was established in August 2011 as a joint initiative between Ngāi Tahu and the University of Canterbury.
