Ngāi Tahu Research Centre students & faculty visit the Tulo Centre

In August, the Tulo Centre hosted a delegation of students and faculty from the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre of the University of Canterbury from Aotearoa (New Zealand) for a week of learning and cultural exchange.

The visit began with an evening event in which the Tulo Centre, TRU, the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre and the University of Canterbury committed to further collaboration and exploration of opportunities to deliver unique Indigenous-led programming through the signing of two memorandums of understanding.

During the visit, the Tulo Centre and Thompson Rivers University (TRU) co-delivered a course in our First Nation Applied Economics program with the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre of the University of Canterbury. Topics in Indigenous Economics provided an opportunity for Tulo Centre and Ngāi Tahu students to learn more about and the differences and similarities in First Nation and Ngāi Tahu contexts and applied economic self-determination strategies.

Beyond the time in the classroom, throughout the week, students from the Tulo Centre and the Ngāi Tahu Research Centre participated in cultural exchange activities, which further strengthened the partnership between the institutions, our instructors and students.
